Lisbon (Lisboa in Portuguese) is the capital and largest city of Portugal, home to more than 25% of the country’s population. As one of the oldest capital cities in Europe, Lisbon is brimming with exciting things to do, interesting history, and beautiful scenery. It has a vibrant culinary scene, energetic nightlife, and unique cultural experiences.

The city also has one of the mildest climates in Europe, which pairs perfectly with its stunning beaches and dramatic natural landscapes. Lisbon serves as the point where the Tagus River, the longest in the Iberian Peninsula, meets the Atlantic Ocean, creating an estuary that boasts both natural reserves and busy seaports with ships from around the world. It is also one of Europe’s least expensive capital cities and offers exceptional value for food and public transport.

Lisbon was built on seven hills - Castelo, Graca, Monte, Penha de Franca, S.Pedro de Alcantara, Santa Catarina, and Estrela - and it is full of historical, ornate architecture that spans several styles and periods. Exploring the various neighborhoods, landmarks, and monuments on one of its iconic trams is a must-have experience. One of the most remarkable sights is the Elevador de Santa Justa, a street elevator, that offers panoramic views of the city. Lisbon is also home to some inspiring artistic landmarks: from urban murals to colorful and whimsical Portuguese pavement art.

While out and about, find local concerts in restaurants and listen to Fado, a music genre that originated in Portugal. Make sure you don't miss your chance at sampling Pastel de Nata, a quintessential Portuguese pastry!
