Academics
USAC's partnership with the University of Roehampton allows you to choose from courses in business, history, media, social change, psychology, and London/U.K. studies. Most courses include hands-on, immersive learning components, such as field trips, museum visits, walking tours, seminars on location, and more. The program includes two weeks of on-site instruction in London, followed by one week of asynchronous remote instruction. You will take one course during the January term and will earn 20 U.K. credits. (approximately 5 U.S. semester credit hours or 7.5 quarter credit hours.)
Courses at the University of Roehampton (subject to change):
London: History, Culture, & Society
This module provides an opportunity for students to develop a deeper understanding of the history of London and of some of its most celebrated monuments, heritage, and historical sites. The module puts students in touch with London’s architecture, sculpture, painting, and archaeological objects. The course will include visits to London’s museums and heritage sites, such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and lesser-known sites off the tourist trail.
Media & Social Change: Class, Race, & Ethnicity
This module focuses on how non-fiction media, such as news, documentary, advertising, lifestyle journalism, and popular factual television, articulate and explore contemporary experiences of profound social change. It focuses especially on the changing landscape of social class, race, and ethnicity. Teaching will be through lectures, seminars, and cultural visits.
Project Management
This module will enable students to systematically review and evaluate the concepts of project management and have an awareness of the key factors involved in successful project management. This module includes case studies ranging from sports events to construction and technology projects.
Psychology of Murder
This module has been designed with ‘murder in mind’! The module aims to give students an understanding of the relationship between psychology and criminology, the legal definition of murder and the issue of responsibility, a range of psychological perspectives to understanding murder, the forensic details of murder including profiling, and the psychology of victimology.
