Meet Your Enrollment Specialist - Kat Rogers
Where did you study abroad?
As an undergrad, I studied abroad with USAC in the Gold Coast, Australia and San Ramón, Costa Rica programs.
What is your favorite memory from your time abroad?
One of my favorite memories was going to Fraser Island in Australia. A few friends and I rented an off roading car and explored the island for a couple of days.
We were woefully underprepared to camp but had the most amazing time regardless. We swam in creeks, drove through jungles, and stargazed. It was such a rugged experience, and we even awoke to a dingo outside of our tent!
What is your favorite place you have traveled to and why?
Although it is hard to choose, my favorite travel spot is the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. It’s a rescue center for elephants, dogs, cats, and even monkeys!
The park had such a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere. When I visited, I was studying veterinary medicine, so we spent our days learning about the animals’ care and taking the rescue dogs for walks whenever we had a chance.
If you could go on any USAC program, what would it be and why?
I would love to participate in USAC’s Bengaluru, India program. India has always been on my travel bucket list. I would love to explore wildlife areas, practice yoga and visit the Taj Mahal.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy hanging out with my dog, reading, snowboarding, and exploring the great outdoors.
What’s on your bucket list?
At the top of my bucket list is completing the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. It’s a 12- 22-day trek through the stunning mountain ranges there. I need to get more hiking practice in before taking on this adventure!
What is a favorite food that you have tried while abroad?
I absolutely loved the breakfast my host family would make me each morning in Costa Rica. Typically, breakfast included gallo pinto—a mix of rice and beans, fried plantains, local coffee, and fruit. I loved practicing Spanish each morning with my host family while preparing to go to class. It made me realize how much I rushed breakfast back home, and that I should learn to make my mornings a bit slower and savor them more.
