You may participate in included field trips during your study abroad term, including one overnight trip outside of Lisbon, and several organized activities within the city center. These could be part of a course, or might occur during orientation and farewell week activities. Destinations are subject to change.
The following are possible destinations and activities; view term calendars for specifics.
Alentejo
Commonly known as the “breadbasket of Portugal,” the Alentejo region in south-central Portugal is known for its agricultural products – cheeses, wines, smoked meats, olive oil, and more. It also includes neolithic structures and several museums and cultural centers.
Évora
The city of Évora boasts more than 2,000 years of history and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its world-renowned architectural wonders include an ancient Roman temple and aqueduct, a massive Gothic cathedral, and a baroque church that features a skeleton-adorned Chapel of Bones.
Peniche
Peniche is a coastal town less than 100 miles from Lisbon with a strong maritime history and excellent surfing opportunities. It is one of Portugal’s most important fishing ports and is known for its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and diverse marine life.
Porto
The second largest city in Portugal, Porto offers historic monuments, fine art museums, and stunning coastlines. The city is perhaps most well-known for its characteristic azulejo tiles, brightly colored houses, and world-famous export port wine.
