Activities and Field Trips for Yonsei University

Semester

Orientation

First Step to Korea is a fun orientation program that will familiarize you to daily life in Korea and introduce you to both city and campus life in Seoul and at Yonsei. Other study abroad and international students will also attend. After orientation the Office of International Affair’s student organization, Yonsei Global (YG), offers a ‘First Step to Korea-Seoul tour’ for interested students.

Festivals and Other Campus Events

The Yon-Ko Festival is held each fall when Yonsei University and its rival, Korea University, hold an annual competition in soccer, baseball, basketball, rugby, and ice hockey. Students dress up in school colors (royal blue) and join in the rhythm and beat of the school cheers with Yonsei students.

Other activities include the ‘Korean Movie Night,’ offering famous films from past and present and free language classes that are designed to offer voluntary teaching and learning opportunities to incoming international students. ‘Language Exchange’ and ‘Global Day’ are held to help students get to know one another. Students are also encouraged to experience Korean culture through ‘Korean Culture Experience,’ also offered by Yonsei Global and Office of International Affairs. In addition to above listed events, volunteering programs, company tour programs and other various events for exchange students are provided. Additional information about this program will be presented at the on-site orientation and in the student handbook.

International Buddy Program

Yonsei University has organized this program to promote interaction between international students and Yonsei students. It is designed to help international students adjust to their new environment and to learn/experience Korean culture by encountering it firsthand from their Yonsei buddies. Likewise, we encourage our students to introduce and share their culture and lifestyle with their Korean buddies—broadening the world view for both.

Summer/January

Orientation

An orientation before classes start will help introduce you to life at Yonsei University. It will open with a performance, usually a K-Pop cover dance, and then go over important regulations, notices, library information, and the campus culture. Summer students will also get to experience AKARAKA.

Cultural Experiences

Yonsei University has designed immersive cultural experiences in the form of one-day activities or field trips to help you learn and discover Korean culture during your summer or winter program. These activities typically have an additional fee.

Activities will vary year-to-year, including the number of opportunities offered during your specific term, but past excursions include: Seoul City Tour, DMZ Tour, Taekwondo Class, Korean Folk Village, K-Pop Dance Class, Lotte World, Mud Festival, Ski Tour, and Korean Cooking Class.
