USAC encourages every student to participate in the tour; however, it is optional and has an additional fee. Due to continually evolving COVID-19 regulations some tours and field studies may or may not be available during the term you choose to study abroad.
Dive right into your summer with an optional five-day tour of some of Ireland's most beautiful and historic counties. Walk in the footsteps of poets and visionaries in Dublin City Centre. Learn the basic skills of Ireland's unique sports -- hurling, Gaelic football and handball. Visit the ancient castle ruins at the Rock of Dunamase for a taste of Ireland's Celtic past. We then head south to the world-famous Ring of Kerry, where we visit the colorful fishing town of Dingle and see the Skellig Islands (a film location for the Star Wars movies) and the Blasket Islands from Kerry's breathtaking coast. Explore the historic sites and lakes of Killarney National Park. Our next stop is Ballyvourney in the heart of the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area), where we will learn some Irish singing and dancing and enjoy a traditional Irish music session with local artists and residents. On the final day of the tour, we visit the holy well of Saint Gobnait, which has been a site of worship and pilgrimage for at least a thousand years. We round off the tour with a walk in the forest park at Gougane Barra, said to be the site of the monastery of Saint Finbarr, the patron saint of Cork, before arriving at our program housing in Cork city.
