Meet Your Advisor - Danny Rhodes
Where did you study abroad?
I studied abroad in Reggio Emilia, Italy, during the Spring 2020 semester. It was the most incredible experience and I walked away with so much personal growth and friends for life!
What is your favorite memory from your time abroad?
During one of the first weekends on my study abroad, a few friends and I took the train to see Pisa, Italy. It was my first time out of the country and it was so magical. After walking through the town, we turned the corner and saw the Leaning Tower. My eyes immediately burst into tears. I could not believe that my childhood dream of traveling the world finally came true. We spent the day taking touristy photos, eating baguettes, and laughing about the most random things. I will remember that day forever!
What is your favorite place you've traveled?
If I had to pick just one, I would say Budapest, Hungary. The city is rooted in so much history, culture, and healing. The thermal baths are a must-visit and goulash is a must-eat!
What is your funniest travel memory?
One Sunday during my study abroad, some friends and I were flying back to our host city. We arrived at the airport and realized our flight would begin boarding in an hour. We were PANICKING! The airline staff graciously helped us move up in the security line. Once we passed the check point, we only had ten minutes to be on the other side of the airport. We bolted for the gate. My friend’s backpack flew open and all her items spread across the airport floor. Everyone was looking at us, we were so stressed, and yet, we made it with only two minutes to spare. Once we sat down on the plane, we laughed hysterically and could not believe we made it. Now, I make sure to get to the airport extra early.
If you could go on any USAC program, what would it be and why?
Hands down, I would go to Heredia, Costa Rica. I would love to learn about the incredible culture of the area. It's out of my comfort zone, but I would love to be surrounded by such vast natural wonders.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Hobbies … yeah, I TOTALLY have those. When I am not scrolling on TikTok, I love to thrift, read, watch rom-coms, listen to podcasts about celebrity drama, and search for the perfect iced matcha latte with oat milk.
What is a weird fact about you?
I have received more traffic and parking tickets than years I have lived.
What's on your bucket list?
I need to be an extra in a TV show or a movie —even if it's just a blurry moment in the background. So … do I call LA, or do they call me?
