Green Education and Community Outreach

The study abroad experience is an opportunity to see how large- and small-scale environmental issues have a global impact. USAC’s Green Pact aims to not only increase our sustainability-focused course offerings, programs, and volunteer opportunities, but also help our students become sustainable travelers who have a positive impact on the world.

Opportunities for students

USAC’s culturally immersive Specialty Programs offer students unique opportunities to intimately engage with the local communities and offset any carbon footprint that comes with their visit. The Green Pact initiative will grow the most through our sustainable education programming and community outreach opportunities, including through the following:

Create opportunities for students to engage with green community initiatives and local sustainability-minded organizations during their study abroad.

Continue to increase our environment- and natural resources-related courses, internships, and volunteer opportunities in all USAC programs.

Offer environment and conservation courses at least twice a year from Visiting Professors programs.

Offer at least two sustainability-related extracurricular activities per year at all Specialty Program locations.

Provide students with options for sustainable travel and encourage local exploration of their host countries and communities.
