Why study in Khon Kaen?

Students at a local temple (wat) in Khon Kaen, Thailand.Students at a market in Khon Kaen, Thailand.Khon Kaen is the fourth largest city in Thailand and is considered the unofficial capital of the Northeast. Featuring ancient cultures, traditions, and historical sites alongside modern hotels, restaurants, and shopping areas, you’ll find a unique blend of old and new in Khon Kaen. This colorful and dynamic city has been largely undiscovered by the wave of tourism that has swept through other parts of the country, making it a genuine representation of the true essence of Thai culture and daily life. Additionally, the city’s relative seclusion from mainstream tourism means a lower cost of living, enabling students to have a rich cultural experience without the price tag of more tourist-centric destinations.

Check out the iconic and high-quality Mudmee silk woven locally, meet warm and hospitable locals, and enjoy tasty street food. For even more adventure, use local transportation to easily visit other parts of Thailand (1 hour to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket), or visit neighboring countries like Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Students attend the International College of Khon Kaen University for a semester or year, or complete an internship during the summer. Choose from courses in creative media technology, global business, international affairs, entrepreneurship, journalism, marketing, tourism, and language, or an internship in health or research. Additionally, USAC requires all students to take a Thai language course to help with assimilation into the culture.
