Host University for La Habana, Cuba
The Instituto de Filosofia began in 1968 and is an agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment. Its basic function is research and teaching in Cuban and Latin thought, educational policy, environmental policy, social movements and emancipatory alternatives, integration and cooperation in Cuba and Latin America, theory and history of socialism, democracy, governance, and human rights. The institute maintains close ties with the Universidad de la Habana and other universities in the country, the US, Europe, and Latin America.
The headquarters of the Instituto de Filosofia is located close to the Universidad de La Habana in Habana’s Vedado neighborhood, a jewel of neoclassical architecture built in the late twenties.
