USAC Travel and Green Transportation

Because traveling is inherent to the international education sector, USAC is perfectly positioned to identify the areas that need more sustainable practices. As part of the Green Pact, we will continuously work toward reducing, eliminating, and revising our processes that generate environmentally harmful waste. The following commitments are some ways we plan on increasing our green efforts while traveling and within other communities.

Business Practices of Sustainable Organizations

  • Limit airline travel when possible; choose major airports with access to public transportation.
  • Participate in carbon offset travel initiatives for rental cars and flights when possible.
  • Plan all business meetings and events within walking distance of public transportation access.
  • Contract with LEED-certified U.S. Green Building hotels or those that focus and align on sustainability efforts; opt out of daily housekeeping services.
  • Mitigate any flora, fauna, and land damage during USAC events.
  • Provide Wi-Fi and present all information online.
  • Reduce or eliminate unnecessary print materials, laminated or non-recyclable signage, and non-recyclable food and beverage containers.
  • Promote sustainable consumer behaviors in restaurants, venues, and service centers, including bringing your own utensils and drink containers or choosing biodegradable food packaging.
