Diversity and Inclusion Development (DID) Grant

USAC is committed to providing access to affordable, academically rigorous, and enriching cross-cultural learning abroad for all students. We celebrate diversity and strive to increase access, inclusion, equity, and support for underrepresented student populations.

Founded in 2018, the Diversity and Inclusion Development (DID) Grant is one way USAC provides study abroad and educational opportunities for diverse students. The funding was created to make study abroad more accessible for first-generation, non-traditional, STEM students, student athletes, LGBTQIA+ students, as well as students with disabilities, ethnic or racial minority backgrounds, financial hardship, and other identities.

How does the DID Grant work?

This grant is open to all institutions on a rolling basis. Grant applications must propose a project, activity, or event to further recruit, serve, and retain underrepresented students and increase enrollments on USAC programs.

Award amounts range from $500 to $1,500 and recipients are determined by a USAC committee. Award amounts under $500 are also available if sufficient for an institution’s proposed event.

Underrepresented students

USAC would like to focus on increasing support for and participation in study abroad by students who self-identify as one or more of the following:

  • Economically disadvantaged
  • First-generation
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Non-traditional age students
  • Male (study abroad demographics are predominately female)
  • Racial and ethnic minorities (non-white/Caucasian)
  • STEM and other underrepresented majors
  • Student athletes
  • Students with disabilities
  • Additional identities (institution may provide information for consideration)
