Australia

Across the country, a diverse selection of pride festivals and film events take place throughout the year, including:

  • Brisbane and Cairns in Queensland – September
  • Gold Coast, Queer Film Festival – September
  • Canberra (SpringOUT Festival) – October
  • Floriade – September – October
  • Syndey WorldPride – February
  • Sydney New South Wales, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) – February – March

Chile

  • Santiago Gay Pride – June
  • Open Mind Fest – November
  • International LGBTI Film Festival (CINE MOVILH) – October

China

Nationally: China decriminalized homosexuality in 1997 and society continues to adjust to change. Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan province, is China’s most inclusive city.

Costa Rica

There is also the Ella International Lesbian Festival, which celebrates art, culture, entertainment, and sports for modern lesbians.

India

The city is India’s most progressive area and home to Bollywood. The Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is held in June and it is the largest in South Asia. In the capital city of Delhi, queer-friendly events include the Delhi Queer Fest and Pride Parade in November. The Delhi International Queer Theater and Film Festival takes place in December. There is also Goa Pride, which is held in November.

Japan

Thailand

While most of Asia is socially conservative, Thailand is a friendly country for LGBTQIA+ travelers. Bangkok hosted Pride events in the early 2000s, but have mostly discontinued due to a lack of funding and homophobia. Thai New Year in April coincides with several Queer film festivals, including the GCircuit festival in Bangkok and TropOut in Phuket.

South Africa

South Africa is the most welcoming area for LGBTQIA+ visitors in the African Continent. From annual Pride parades in large cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg to smaller areas like Port Elizabeth and Stellenbosch, LGBTQIA+ people have many options to spend Pride Month.
