Activities for Bangalore (Bengaluru), India
In addition to the program-organized field trips and service-learning/volunteer opportunities through the Center for Social Action (CSA), you may also visit local businesses, agencies and cultural events with your fellow classmates and professors or assist Christ students with cultural events and activities held on campus. Additionally, the Resident Director will organize many Bollywood dance opportunities, henna parties, festivities for typical US and Indian holidays, and culturally significant speakers to learn more about the local culture and traditions.
During the semester, students are paired up with Indian Buddies during orientation week to get involved in the Christ community right away. At the beginning of the program the USAC students are welcomed by the Buddies who are regular students of Christ. They take USAC students around the campus, help them buy cell phones, clothes, etc. They are also invited to join and participate on USAC trips and other activities throughout the semester to get more involved with USAC students.
Semester students also have the opportunity to sit in regular Christ classes outside of their USAC courses (which can be in their area of study or for fun, such as cooking, baking, etc.), do projects and practicals with local students, and go on class-organized trips. Many locals, including students, will also ask USAC students to attend functions at home during festivals and marriages. Students may form cricket, basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams, and also to participate in the on-campus International Club and events that they hold. They are also invited to any conventions or events on campus that may be in their field of study.
