Why study in Lyon?

Students waiting for the train in Lyon, France.Lyon is the third-largest city in France and blends the simplicity of French tradition with a large, modern European city. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, Lyon’s history spans everything from Roman times to the French Revolution, the Renaissance, and World War II, making it a living museum.

There is something for everyone in Lyon. Bike along the Rhône or Saône rivers, wander through some of the most well-preserved Renaissance architecture in the world, visit a cultural event like "Nuits Sonores" or "Fête des Lumières", sample centuries-old traditional recipes at small restaurants called "bouchons", or choose a homestay for a true glimpse into French home life, culture, and cooking.

Lyon is conveniently located near the borders of Switzerland and Italy, and is just a train ride away from Paris, Provence, the French Alps, and many other locations.

You can study for one or two summer sessions, a semester, or year at L’Université Catholique de Lyon (Lyon Catholic University). You may choose from two academic options: the traditional Intensive French Language Option (IFL), which emphasizes French language and culture, or the Multidisciplinary Studies in English Option (MSE) program which requires only one course in French language and offers a variety of courses taught in English.
