The Hague Courses – 2020 Fall

Studying abroad can be a more meaningful and invigorating learning experience than at home—both inside and outside of the classroom. You may be more curious and alert than you usually are so use this heightened energy to enhance your studies as well as your cultural and geographical explorations. You may also encounter different teaching styles and course processes; be prepared to adapt and to learn.

Academics

USAC’s partnership with The Hague University of Applied Science’s Faculty of Management and Organization provides you with an array of academic offerings taught in English. You may choose from courses offered in the European Studies programme (departments), subject to courses availability and host university approval of prerequisite requirements. All students are required to take the semester-long course, Introduction to Dutch Culture and Society. USAC students also have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, student-led, project-based learning through participation in one of two “Projects” courses.

    Other Academic Opportunities

Project “Europe 21” is an intensive and practical six-week independent research project, where you work to identify a solution to a real-world problem posed by a local organization. The project allows you to gain practical insight into a contemporary theme that combines the public and private sectors. Teams of five to six students work with a support member of the local organization, and their solution is reviewed and assessed by a committee of faculty/staff and external representatives.

The Hague Summit +20 introduces you to arguably one of the most urgent questions of 21st century modern society—how to sustain an acceptable level of wealth for over seven billion people on our finite planet. Guest lectures, group work, self-study, and individual research will combine to expose students to the concept of sustainable development and to develop an appreciation of the difficulty of international cross-stakeholder decision making. The Hague Summit is usually offered during the fall semester only, and students will earn 5 ECTS (2.5 US credits) upon successful completion.
