Studying abroad can be a more meaningful and invigorating learning experience than at home—both inside and outside of the classroom. You may be more curious and alert than you usually are so use this heightened energy to enhance your studies as well as your cultural and geographical explorations. You may also encounter different teaching styles and course processes; be prepared to adapt and to learn.
Academics
USAC's partnership with the University of Brighton provides you with a wide array of academic options. You may choose from courses offered in the School of Applied Sciences, School of Art and Media, School of Business and Law, School of Health and Sport Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Architecture, Technology, and Engineering. Courses are subject to availability and approval of prerequisites which are determined by the University of Brighton. Students can enroll in 12-15 U.S. credits per semester (40-50 Brighton credits), which typically equates to three modules total. Students may choose to enroll in more than the 15-credit maximum for an additional fee.
All students are required to take a 3-credit British Culture course which provides a strong foundation for the study abroad experience.

NOTE: Due to differences in academic calendars, most fall semester science and engineering courses end in February and require that you take final exams at your home university following your return home if you are unable to remain in Brighton until the end of the term.
Course Required for Study Abroad Students
An Introduction to British Culture: This mandatory module introduces and analyzes a number of major figures and influences on British culture from 1500 to present-day. It uses workshops, visits, and small-group seminars to explore the diversities of British culture, allowing students to reflect on the influence of the past as well as the present. Students are encouraged to actively discuss and debate the issues raised, while also collaborating with their peers to create shared understanding.
