You may be more curious and alert than you usually are so use this heightened energy to enhance your studies as well as your cultural and geographical explorations. Academics

USAC's partnership with Griffith University provides you with a wide array of academic options including the opportunity for qualified student to take courses at the Queensland College of Art or the Conservatorium of Music. You also may also enroll in an elective community internship course or a Specialized Semester Certificatethat demonstrates your experience in a specialized area of study. Students enroll in regular Griffith University classes alongside their Australian peers.

Specialized Trimester Certificate

Students who elect to obtain Griffith University's Specialized Trimester Certificate have the unique opportunity to gain recognition and showcase their expertise in a specialized subject area while abroad. The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete at least 3 courses from one of the approved specializations in International Law, Crime and Justice, Popular Music, Music Literature, Australian and Indigenous Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, History, Islam-West Relations, Journalism, Public Relations, Screen Studies, Social Science, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Linguistics, Language in Society, Health and Physical Education, Education in the Australian Context, Australian Indigenous Art, Creative and Interactive Media, Design, and Digital Media. A typical full-time study load is four courses per semester so you still have the flexibility to include a course outside of the specialization to either complement or differentiate your semester abroad.

Community Internship Course

Griffith University's Community Internship course fosters a culture of volunteerism and socially inclusive practice while providing personal and professional development for students. Students in the community internship volunteer for a minimum of 50+ hours and concurrently complete an elective course pertaining to their volunteer placement. Students may choose from over 80 not-for-profit organizations and 400+ internship opportunities. Participating in the community internship is an ideal way to gain real world experience and integrate with the local community. Past internships have included the fields of social media management; youth program services, animation/illustration; conference coordination; marketing; finance; garden projects; interior design; and risk management, among others.
