Explore China

The 2025 Chinese New Year honors the Year of the Wood Snake — a rare combination occurring every 60 years — starting January 29. This year signifies a time of wisdom, creativity, mystery, and growing ideas that have been ruminating under the surface.

The Year of the Wood Snake welcomes the unknown, encouraging you to be open to possibilities, and embrace transformative life experiences. Exploring China — its culture, cuisine, and customs — through a University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) study abroad program is the ideal way to ring it in. Starting this summer through spring of 2026, we’re providing discounts to our USAC China programs to help make your dream of living and studying in the Far East a reality.

Have you daydreamed about living in an ancient and vibrant Chinese metropolis? Is “visit a panda reserve” on your bucket list? Maybe you’ve always wanted to taste authentic Chinese cuisine with new (likely lifelong) Chinese friends while practicing your Mandarin? A USAC Shanghai or Chengdu study abroad program might be your gateway to accomplishing these once-in-a-lifetime experiences — and we’d like to help you get there.

Limited-time $500 discount

USAC, with the support of former USAC Chengdu and Shanghai Visiting Professor Dr. Marianne Cooley, is excited to announce a $500 discount for 2025 Summer Session, 2025 Fall, and 2026 Spring study abroad in Shanghai or Chengdu, China. Additionally, returning USAC Specialty program alumni will receive an additional discount off their program fee. As always, field trips — to ancient towns, festivals, reserves, and must-see places — and on-site staff and support are included in the program fee.

Here's the details:

Summer I & II 2025

The first 5 students to enroll in a combined Summer I & II program in Chengdu or Shanghai by March 15, 2025, will receive $500 off the program fee (which includes housing).

Fall 2025

The first 10 students to enroll in a 2025 Fall program (by May 15, 2025) or 2026 Spring program (by October 15, 2025) in Chengdu or Shanghai will receive $500 off the program fee (housing not included).

Returning students

All returning USAC Specialty Program alumnus receive a discount off their next program fee, ranging from $300-$500 off your study abroad.

If you’re a returning USAC Specialty Program alumnus and are the first 5 – 10 students enrolled in a Chengdu or Shanghai program during the promotion period, you will receive both the $500 discount and returning student discount. Set up a virtual advising appointment for details.

How much does it cost?

It’s no secret study abroad is deeply meaningful and impactful, but did you know it’s also an affordable option? USAC works hard to keep most of its program offerings similar or lower than the tuition at your home university for a term abroad. Our summer programs often also include housing in the program fee. Plus, all field trips are included in the cost. If you’re still wondering how you can afford your study abroad, check out USAC scholarships for additional funding possibilities.

What can you study abroad?

USAC offers courses like Chinese culture, cuisine, international business, tai chi, and calligraphy in our China programs.

What are all the cool extras included in your study abroad?

Study abroad is a culturally immersive experience, and USAC helps provide additional opportunities for you to experience your new home abroad — at no additional fee to you.
