During the three-week January term, immerse in North African culture, where Arab-Islamic traditions, indigenous Berber heritage, and sub-Saharan African influences, and Mediterranean-European French history, blend in everyday life. Through a homestay experience, you’ll live like the locals do, including the cultural norm of gathering for dinner later in the evening, often around 9 p.m.
Whether you’re exploring hidden markets, enjoying scenic views of the coast, diving into history at a museum or historic site, or joining the two included field trips to Casablanca and Salé, you’ll find Morocco to be a dramatically different destination.
What's included in the cost?
Program fees include tuition, housing (homestay accommodations), student health insurance, visa guidance, transcript assistance, and more.
As with all USAC Specialty Programs, field trips, on-site staff, and 24-hour support are included in the program fee as well.
Your January 2027 Morocco program fees also include two field trips:
- Casablanca: The largest city in Morocco and a central hub of the country, here you can marvel at historic mosques, explore traditional markets, and more.
- Salé: Medieval sites, including historical medina and Marinid monuments, and coastal views comprise this authentic North African city.
On top of that, there will be local experiences so you can learn what makes Morocco special and engage with the locals during this short-term program.
What can you study in Morocco?
The Morocco program offers two courses for credit: Intercultural Communication and Community Engagement, and Moroccan Society, Culture, and Language.
Intercultural Communication is an experiential, service-learning course exploring themes such as cultural values, communication styles, identity, and power. Itis honors eligible.
The Moroccan Society, Culture, and Language course introduces students to everyday life in Morocco, including practical Moroccan Arabic language and vocabulary so they can navigate their time abroad efficiently. The course is a blend of in-class discussions and site visits.
There is also a non-credit Moroccan cuisine class available where students learn to prepare, cook, and serve authentic Moroccan dishes.
